A Day in the Life of a Real Estate Photographer

by | Mar 17, 2024 | Real Estate Photography | 1 comment

Dive into the world of real estate photography with Jeremy Curtis of 57ink Photography, and discover what it takes to capture properties in their best light, from dawn till dusk.

The life of a real estate photographer is one filled with passion, precision, and the constant pursuit of the perfect shot. It’s me, Jeremy Curtis, from 57ink Photography, and I’m about to take you on a journey through my typical day, capturing the essence and beauty of homes. It all starts the night before…

Preparation Is Key

The evening before is all about preparation. Ensuring all camera and Matterport 360 camera batteries are on charge is the first step in my routine. My SD and Mini SD cards are all formatted, ready for the next day’s shoot. The DJI drone batteries are also charged, ready for those breathtaking aerial views. Tripods are checked and prepared, setting the stage for a smooth day ahead.

An Early Start

By 7 AM, I’m up and about, grabbing that essential cup of coffee which kick-starts my day. Packing a cooler with drinks and snacks is next; staying energized is key. Then, it’s time to load all the gear into my F-150, syncing my phone to blast my favorite country tunes. Music is my travel companion, setting a positive vibe as I head to the first location.

On Location

Arriving at the location, I greet the real estate agent with warmth and professionalism. A clean entry into the home is a must, respecting the homeowner’s space. Introducing myself to the homeowner, I ensure them of my excitement and dedication to capturing their home’s beauty.

The Shoot

Ensuring all lights are on and ceiling fans are off is part of the prep. It’s then time to start the shoot with the Matterport 360, capturing a virtual tour. With precision, I then move to still photography, setting up my Sony A7 IV on the tripod. The shoot flows smoothly, each room captured meticulously, culminating in the drone launch for those unique aerial shots.

Having photographed over 2,734 homes in the past four years, I’ve fine-tuned my process, ensuring every property is shown in its best light. This extensive experience enriches every shoot, allowing me to capture the unique essence of each home.

Wrapping Up

After a fulfilling day of shooting, I always conclude with my signature line, “That’s a wrap,” thanking the homeowners and bidding farewell to the real estate agent. It’s more than just a shoot; it’s about building relationships and contributing to the property’s journey.

Post-Production

Back at the office, the focus shifts to selecting the best shots for editing. With a keen eye, I curate the images that will represent the property on the MLS, ensuring a 24-hour turnaround. This efficiency and attention to detail are what set my work apart.

Reflection

A day in the life of a real estate photographer is demanding yet deeply rewarding. It’s a blend of artistry, technical skill, and personal interaction. With every home I photograph, I’m reminded of the passion that drives me. Capturing the essence of a home, and contributing to someone’s dream, is what I love most about my job. And as I reflect on the 2,734 homes I’ve had the privilege to photograph, I’m excited for what each new day will bring.
